Thank-you-page upsells without revenue share
Most upsell apps cost more as you sell more. They take a revenue share, meter "app-generated revenue" by their own counter, or push you up usage tiers. For a single post-purchase offer, that pricing can quietly become one of your most expensive apps — and you are paying a percentage of sales you would have made anyway.
You don't need usage-based pricing for one offer
A full funnel builder earns its tiered pricing. But if all you want is one clean upsell on the order-status / thank-you page, a flat price makes far more sense. The offer either converts or it doesn't — the app cost shouldn't scale with your success.
The setup that actually converts
- Pick one complementary product as the offer — not a random bestseller. Relevance to what they just bought is everything.
- Give a real one-time discount (10–20%) so the "thanks" feels genuine rather than a markup in disguise.
- Make the code single-use and short-lived so it does not leak onto coupon sites.
- Attribute by the code actually redeemed, not by guessed "influenced" revenue. Honest numbers you can trust.
Get ready for the new Thank You page
Shopify is migrating non-Plus stores to the new checkout and Thank You page extensions ahead of the August 2026 deadline. Older script-based upsells that hook the legacy order-status page will stop working. A post-purchase offer built as a proper Thank You page extension is ready for that change now.
A flat-price option
I built Upright Upsell to do exactly this: one clean offer on the new Thank You page, a flat $6.99/month, unlimited orders, no revenue share. Single-use codes that expire in 24 hours, and attribution that exists only to inform you — never to bill you. (Disclosure: I'm the maker.)
